Jacobson takes final Dunlop Series pole in Sydney

Garry Jacobson

Garry Jacobson

Garry Jacobson will attempt to clinch the Dunlop Series title from pole position in the final race of the year at the Coates Hire Sydney 500.

Jacobson did just enough to deny team-mate and title rival Jack Le Brocq pole as Prodrive Racing Australia locked out the front row.

The series leader suffered an early scare when his Challenger Valves Falcon glanced the wall at Turn 12 and he sat outside the top ten after the first runs.

James Golding was fastest initially before Bryce Fullwood was first to dip into the 1:29s bracket.

Andrew Jones and Todd Hazelwood took turns on provisional pole as the second runs commenced, before Jacobson shot to the top with a minute remaining.

Le Brocq fell less than 0.03s short in his quest for back-to-back poles at Olympic Park, leaving the PRA pair tied on four Armor All Poles each for the season.

Golding moved into third after the chequered flag, before Hazelwood improved his time but not his fourth position, with Andrew Jones fifth.

Richard Muscat qualified sixth despite apparently being baulked by a rejoining Josh Kean during the 15-minute session.

Taz Douglas, Anton de Pasquale, Fullwood, and Macauley Jones made up the top 10.

Jacobson need only finish this afternoon’s 17-lap race, which starts at 1420 AEDT, to win the series.
