TeamVodafone’s Jamie Whincup is looking to consolidate his position in the V8 Supercars Championship at the ITM400 Hamilton this weekend.
The reigning champion, currently second in the title chase behind Ford Performance Racing rival Will Davison, endured mixed fortunes in the last round at Symmons Plains – including his ‘Spin and Win’ on Sunday.
The three-time V8 champ has won four V8 Supercars races at the track – the most of any driver – but is focused on putting points in his championship bank.
“My main goal is to have a clean run and steady the ship from the ups and downs of Tassie,” Whincup said.
“Even though I have had some highs and lows at this track, it is one that I really enjoy, especially the industrial section to finish off the lap.”
TeamVodafone team-mate Craig Lowndes hasn’t enjoyed the same success as Whincup at the New Zealand circuit, with just two top-five results from nine races.
Lowndes is hoping to turn his luck around for the final Hamilton ITM400 this weekend.
“This is the last opportunity for me to try and win a race in Hamilton,” Lowndes said.
“The track is quite demanding and very difficult to get right. Last year was the closest I have come to tasting victory on this circuit.
“It would be very satisfying to stand on the top step of the podium during Hamilton’s final race weekend.”
