Jason Bright Prodrive deal confirmed

Jason Bright’s return to Prodrive next season will take place with primary backing from petroleum products firm MEGA Limited.

Revealed by Speedcafe.com last month, Bright and his Racing Entitlements Contract will slot in as the fourth car in the Prodrive stable.

The deal was struck after Bright was replaced by Nick Percat at Brad Jones Racing, where the veteran had been domiciled for the last seven years.

As reported on Friday, Bright’s decision to take his REC from BJR to Prodrive has been countered by the Blanchard family buying the REC previously underpinning Super Black.

Bright previously raced at Prodrive from 2005/06 in a stint highlighted by victory alongside Mark Winterbottom in the Sandown 500.

Now 43 and the oldest driver in the Supercars field, Bright says he’s eager to recapture his front-running form.

“I am really excited about the opportunity for 2017,” said Bright, whose car will run as #56.

“PRA have been very successful in the last few years with plenty of race wins, two Bathurst titles and a championship so I am looking forward to stepping back into one of their cars and seeing how we go. I feel like we can be competitive.

“It is also great to see a new sponsor in MEGA Limited entering the series and I am going to enjoy representing them.”

Prodrive boss Tim Edwards says he’s looking forward to welcoming Bright back into the fold.

Bright left the team at the end of 2006 to drive for his own Britek operation, which had been set up the previous year as part of the driver’s deal with Ford.

“It is great to have Jason back at the team and we are all looking forward to having him back racing our cars and continuing the success we shared all those years ago,” Edwards said.

“There is actually a lot of staff that he worked with in 05/06 that are still part of the team so there is a degree of familiarity which will help too, plus he will bring a lot of knowledge and be a great sounding board for Chaz (Mostert) and Cam (Waters) which will be a big benefit.”

Sponsor MEGA Limited supplies petroleum products including fuel, distillate and Ad-blue to the wholesale, retail and remote industry markets and is a new addition to the Supercars Championship.

“MEGA Limited and its associated companies, MEGA Quality Fuels, MEGA Quip and MEGA Marine are very excited to announce our partnership with PRA,” said MEGA Limited’s National Motorsport Manager, Terry Knight.

“To be associated with such a successful team as PRA is a huge thrill for us. We are equally thrilled to have such a successful, distinguished and talented driver in Jason Bright join PRA. The fact he will represent our brand in its inaugural season in Supercars is fantastic.

“Our long-term sponsorship of car #56 enables MEGA Ltd to promote our products and services to a very large and loyal motorsport audience.”
