Jonathon Webb is optimistic of turning around a poor run of form at this weekend’s Sargent Security Phillip Island 360 following a between-event trip to the United States.
Webb and wife Kobe, who is also Tekno’s CEO, visited the famed SEMA automotive performance parts show in Las Vegas, Nevada, following the Armor All Gold Coast 600.
The pair attended the event on behalf of Tekno’s performance road car division, which is based out of the same Yatala workshop as the two-car V8 Supercars team.
On the track, Webb has endured a tough second half of the year, scoring just one top 10 finish over the last 12 races since Townsville.
The form slump has also seen Webb qualify outside the top 20 for all but one of the last 10 races.
Finishing every race has helped the 30-year-old remain in the top half of the points standings; sitting 12th ahead of the final two events.
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car after a bit of a break,” he said in a team preview.
“We’ve dropped back a bit further in the championship than we wanted to, and haven’t been as competitive recently as we’d like to have been, but we’ll push forward like we did at the end of last year.
“I like Phillip Island, we had a good run here last year and will aim to finish the championship in the top 10 and end the season on a high note.”
Webb hopes that the variables of weather and a resurfaced circuit will help his quest to trouble the front-runners.
“I’ve had a look at the forecasts, and the weather looks like it will play a big part in the weekend, so it should be interesting,” he said.
“The new surface will be quite interesting (as well). We’re very relieved that V8s took the step to test the tyres, so we don’t have a MotoGP type situation, but it will definitely be tougher on tyres, with an aggressive new surface.
“It’s already a fast track, so it will be even quicker now. It will make for very fast, very tight racing, that’s for sure.”
Webb’s team-mate Shane van Gisbergen heads to Phillip Island seventh in the championship having taken a podium finish last time out at Surfers Paradise.
