Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series racer Marcus Zukanovic has picked up a local sponsor for this weekend’s races at the Townsville street circuit.
Zukanovic, a tow truck driver at his family’s Action Motor Industries workshop in Melbourne’s west, is carrying major backing from ABC Towing on his ex-Paul Morris Motorsport VE Commodore.
“Being tow truck operators ourselves down in Melbourne, when we travel interstate we have a bit of a bond with other towies,” Zukanovic told Speedcafe.com.
“It’s great that ABC Towing has jumped on board and helped us out this weekend, and we’re really looking forward to getting a good result for them, as well as ourselves.”
Zukanovic was third fastest in this morning’s opening Fujitsu Series practice session at the Townsville street course, despite breaking a differential late in the session.
The Action Racing team tested at Winton alongside Matthew White Motorsport, Fastaz Racing and Sonic Motor Racing Services last week, with Zukanovic taking great confidence from the day.
“We just spent a day really concentrating on trying to adapt my driving style to the new VE,” said Zukanovic of the test.
“Obviously coming from the VZ this thing is a bit different to drive. We had a good day and we were reasonably fast, so we’re definitely making progress.
“The more miles I do in the car, the more comfortable I feel, so hopefully this weekend we can get it a bit further up the grid.”
Zuaknovic currently sits a lowly 22nd in the Fujitsu Series points standings, having recorded a double DNS in Adelaide’s opening round due to a engine failure in qualifying.
“Honestly my series is probably shot, so now I’m just chasing podiums, if I can get there,” he said.
In other Fujitsu Series news, Lindsay Yelland will make his debut in the class this weekend with Egglestone Motorsport.
The team’s VZ Commodore is racing in the colours of website goodrecipes.com.au, ending the first practice session at the foot of the time sheets.
