Defending MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo has led the field on the first day at San Marino.
The factory Yamaha rider set the fastest time in the second session after Australian title leader Casey Stoner (Honda) was the quickest in the first session.
Lorenzo held a comfortable lead for the majority of the second session until the Hondas closed the gap. Stoner ended up just 0.076s shy of Lorenzo's 1m33.929s time. Stoner's team-mate Dani Pedrosa took third, with the Gresini Honda of Marco Simoncelli fourth.
Ben Spies (Yamaha) and Andrea Dovizioso (Honda) completed the top six.
The same six riders occupied the top six places in the first session, albeit in a much different order.
Stoner was on top, followed by Spies, Pedrosa, Dovizioso, Simoncelli and Lorenzo.
Qualifying will be held tomorrow at the Italian track.
