Jorge Lorenzo shows the way in opening testing at Qatar

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo has topped a hectic MotoGP test session at Qatar.

Andrea Iannone and Maverick Vinales took turns at the top before Lorenzo ended the day with a 1:55.45s lap which was 1.3s slower than the 2015 pole lap.

Valentino Rossi had a spill at Turn 10 on his Yamaha but escaped injury.

Later Aleix Espargaro fell, bringing out a brief red flag period while debris was cleared from Turn 14 in the closing hours. Espargaro emerged uninjured from the incident.

Yamaha rider MotoGP Maverick Vinales was second .428s off Lorenzo’s best.

Yamaha is running a hybrid of the 2015 and 2016 bike for Lorenzo and Rossi.
