Jordan Love has got his first taste of the Surfers Paradise Turn 1-2 Chicane by finding the tyre barrier in the opening Carrera Cup practice session.
Making his first Gold Coast start in a Carrera Cup car on the unforgiving Surfers Paradise streets, Love brought out the session's only red flag when he got the left-hand-side in the barrier.
“I just hit the kerb slightly wrong and the back stepped out and I got the barrier,” said Love.
Although the panels were pressed-in, the damage was somewhat better than hitting a concrete barrier.
He was not the only driver to score damage to their vehicle, with Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge points leader Stephen Grove going for a wild spin through the beachside chicane before backing into another tyre barrier.
“You always want to find the limit,” said Grove.
“I now know where it is!”
Fastest in the first session was double-duty racer Alex Davison ahead of another Supercar co-driver and Carrera Cup points leader in David Wall.
Carrera Cup has another practice sessions at 12:45pm local time with qualifying at 3:50pm.
