Luke Dillon survived some wing damage to dominate the 35-lap A-Main in round one of the World Series Sprintcars at Speedway City Virginia and lead home a South Australian podium.
Dillion had a support post impale his front wing early in the feature race but managed to fight on in the Action Line Marking/Hogs Breath Cafe #81 Eagle.
Brad Keller stormed to a career-best second place in the Fatchen Cartage Contractors #19 ahead of Mt Gambier’s Steven Lines in the Halls Motorsport #3 KPC.
“It’s awesome to have an all South Australian podium,” Dillon said.
“We’ve worked hard for all these years and to finally get a main event win is fantastic and a credit to our team. My younger brother Lee is one of the best in the business when it comes to setting up these things.”
The 35-lap feature was punctuated by several red light stoppages. One of which included American Tim Kaeding flipping over in a heavy wreck in turn two late in the race.
The chassis was beyond repair with the team preparing a new car for the second round at Murray Bridge speedway.
Other DNFs included James McFadden (flat right rear tyre), Ryan Jones (crash), Trevor Green (engine), Phillip March (mechanical) and Kyle Hirst (engine fire).
