Western Australian teenager Luke Gabin’s career aspirations have received a boost following victory at the Skip Barber Racing School Race Series Championship Shootout in America.
Gabin, an accomplished kart racer on Australian circuits, won the ‘Karts to Cars’ Scholarship last year providing him the opportunity to compete in the 16 round Skip Barber Summer Series in 2014 – which he duly won.
The top 5 drivers in the championship points for the Winter Series and the Sumer Series were be invited to compete in the Race Series Championship Shootout at Road Atlanta.
These talented racers battled in a three-day event where they were evaluated on their overall performance in five race events, media training, fitness, and business proposal.
The Championship Shootout is the pinnacle of the Skip Barber Racing School Scholarship Ladder, which rewards young racers who are dedicated to their craft and successfully work their way through the proven Skip Barber Racing School system.
They were provided with expert coaching both on and off the track, media exposure, scholarship opportunities and vital track time through the process.
Gabin’s victory in the Shootout, by two points from INDYCAR Academy Champion Michai Stephens, secured him a $200,000 driver development scholarship presented by Mazda for use toward a seat in the 2015 Cooper Tires USF2000 Series powered by Mazda.
