Australian teenager Matthew Brabham is the latest young hotshot selected to join the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s Rising Star program for 2013.
Operators of the Silverstone International Circuit, the 85-year-old club bills itself as the ‘guardian of British motor racing’.
Its young driver scheme sees a small troupe of 14 to 24 years olds selected to join the club as Rising Stars each year.
Previous Rising Stars include 2008 Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the late two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon.
“It is a great honour to be chosen for the Rising Star program by the BRDC” said Brabham, the son of 1993 Le Mans 24 Hour winner Geoff Brabham, and grandson of three-time World Drivers’ Champion, Jack.
“I have heard many stories about the BRDC from my grandpa, and seen some old photos of him receiving awards and attending functions at the club.

Brabham is competing in the USA’s Pro Mazda Championship this season, winning the second race of the opening round at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, earlier this month.
