Newly appointed Porsche Cars Australia motorsport manager Cameron McConville isn’t ruling out continuing as V8 Supercars’ Driving Standards Observer next year.
McConville has taken up the Porsche position with the permission of V8 Supercars, having replaced Tomas Mezera in the touring car class’ judicial system at the beginning of the season.
PCA incumbent Jamey Blaikie will be on hand at the next Carrera Cup event later this month before passing the reigns to McConville ahead of the Bathurst and Gold Coast meetings.
McConville has acted as the Race Director for Carrera Cup since the start of the season as part of a wider ambassadorial role with CAMS; another position he’ll continue in at least during the short-term.
“It hasn’t been discussed yet,” McConville told Speedcafe.com when asked of his future as the DSO beyond 2013.
“I’m trying to instil some confidence with V8 Supercars that I will do the role to the same level as before and also to Porsche customers that I will be here (at Porsche) during the week and it will be my main focus.

“My plan is to get through to Sydney Olympic Park (the final round of the 2013 V8 Supercars season) and get everything in place from a Porsche perspective as far as calendar and new car (Cup Cup) deliveries, and then weigh up what I juggle next year.”
Taking up the V8 Supercars position this year spelt the end of McConville’s driving career in the class that included 20 starts in the Bathurst 1000.
Blaikie meanwhile told Speedcafe.com on Wednesday that he is yet to bed down new employment for himself, and that his options include positions both in and outside of motorsport.
“It was time to move on and have some fresh blood to come in and look at it and take it to the next level,” he said of leaving Porsche.
