Fresh from securing his Supercars future, Scott McLaughlin heads to Townsville determined to deliver success in his remaining races with Garry Rogers Motorsport.
McLaughlin emerged as the key player in this year’s silly season with speculation surrounding his future circulating since the start of the campaign.
While his focus hasn’t dwindled during the period, he says delivering victories and a title push to repay GRM’s faith in him is the sole goal for the rest of the season.
The Volvo driver remains among the favourites to challenge for the championship lying third in the standings just 45 points adrift of leader Jamie Whincup.
“It is 100 percent (full focus),” McLaughlin told Speedcafe.com.
“It is cool to get it locked away and everyone knows where I am going (next year).
“It is a good position and now I have just got to get on with the job.
“It (securing my future) has been a little bit of a distraction but in some ways it has been positive because it has made me ensure that I am doing the best job I can.
“Of course (I’m hungry to deliver some success before I go). Garry (Rogers) was the guy that gave me my shot and we are very close.
“For me it will be special to give something back to the team and finish the year on a good note.
“Pushing forward I will do the best job I can for them and I will worry about 2017 when it gets here.”
After a strong display of pace at Townsville last year, which netted a pole position, McLaughlin is feeling confident he can boost his title bid this weekend.
“We had pretty good speed there last year and our car has been better everywhere we have gone this year,” added McLaughlin.
“We can only hope to keep pushing on so we are up in the top five where we need to be for the championship.
“I feel like we have got through our two rounds Darwin and Winton where we have traditionally struggled out. I feel now we are on a little bit of a roll.”
Opening practice for the Castrol Edge Townsville 400 begins on Friday at 1205 AEST.
