Mercedes-AMG has revealed its first GT4 fighter ahead of its racing debut later this year.
The German manufacturer threw its hat in the ring of the burgeoning category when it released renders of the car, based on a road-going GT R, in December last year.
Mercedes-AMG confirmed at the launch that the car will be powered by a 4 litre V8 biturbo engine producing up to 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque (subject to BoP).
The retail price is €198,850 (AUD 292,850), excluding taxes.
“The GT4 segment is getting more and more popular,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
“The production-based concept is an important factor, especially when you want to get started in motorsport as a team or as a driver.
“For us as a manufacturer, GT4 competition is a logical next step to extend our Customer Racing Programme.
“After the achievements in GT3 racing, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 is opening another valuable platform for us to prove our competence as a globally successful sports car and performance brand.”
First deliveries are scheduled for the end of this year, though HWA will enter the car in selected events during the rest of 2017.
Bernd Schneider, Thomas Jäger, and Jan Seyffarth are primarily responsible for test driving the car.
