Mildura Rural City Council will unveil plans for the proposed Mildura Motorsports & Community Precinct at a public meeting next week.
The information meeting will mark the launch of the project, which would include a sealed 3km race circuit as part of Stage 1.
Council has endorsed a full business case, staged development plan and investment prospectus, but will seek funding from the private sector and other levels of government in order to see the project come to fruition.
The precinct would be located on a parcel of council-owned land known as ‘Block H’ in Koorlong, approximately 10km from the CBD of the Victorian border town.
According to the prospectus, released last month, Stage 1 of the project is estimated to cost $21.8million dollars, with council seeking $5.4million from the private sector under a private-public partnership.
Stage 1 would include the race circuit, a skid pan, and pit buildings and control tower, located next to the existing Sunraysia Drag Racing Association site and Dirtworx motocross facility.
The long term master plan, encompassing four stages, would see a number of motorsport clubs move from separate facilities into the consolidated precinct.
CAMS has reiterated its support for the project, which officially dates back to a 2011 feasibility study commissioned by Mildura Rural City Council and Swan Hill Rural City Council.
“It’s one of the most exciting projects in this country and is proudly supported by CAMS,” said CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca.
“The centre is ideally located between Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide and offers the very best in motor sport opportunities, including a bitumen track, skid pan and associated facilities for an integrated motor sport complex.
“It will be able to cater for a host of different motor sport disciplines and is located only 10km from the Mildura CBD.”
The launch of the Mildura project comes amid ongoing construction of the brand new Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend, South Australia, which is on track to open in early 2018.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday July 19 July from 6pm at the Mildura Arts Centre.
