Ford Performance Racing’s Chaz Mostert has led the way in the opening Dunlop Series practice session of the weekend at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The 20-year-old spent most of the 45 minutes trading times with Matthew White Racing’s Luke Youlden, with a late 2:10.27s effort from Mostert undercutting his rival by just 0.005s.
Andrew Jones and Scott McLaughlin were third and fourth respectively in the cool but sunny conditions, while Nick Percat was fifth after setting his fastest time on his final lap.
Tim Blanchard, Dale Wood, Scott Pye, Geoff Emery and George Miedecke completed the top 10.
The session was punctuated by two red flag periods. The first flew at the 10 minute mark after Ash Walsh spun into the tyre barrier at Griffins Bend.
The Matt Stone Racing Falcon suffered significant front and rear damage in the crash, although the team hopes to have it back on track for the second session this afternoon.
Nandi Kiss was the cause of the second red flag soon after the restart. The ex-PWR Holden was able to rejoin, but ended the session at the foot of the times.
IRWIN Racing’s Lee Holdsworth also made a special appearance in the session, driving V8 Supercars’ Car of the Future Ford Falcon. The #2013 car was evaluating the new 18-inch Dunlop tyres and was not carrying a timing transponder.
