Experienced BMW factory driver Jörg Muller has been named among Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Bathurst 12 Hour driver line-up.
The German operation will field one of four BMW M6 GT3s set to tackle the February 3-5 Mount Panorama Classic.
Muller will be joined in the squad by young Brit Ricky Collard, son of British Touring Car Championship star Rob Collard, and newly crowned Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Nico Menzel.
All three drivers in the #99 M6 GT3 will be making their Mount Panorama debut next week.
Muller will bring a wealth of experience to the squad having made appearances at the Le Mans 24 Hours, while winning the American Le Mans Series GT class for BMW in 2001.
The 47-year-old, who piloted an M6 GT3 in Japan’s Super GT last year, is eagerly anticipating his Bathurst debut.
“Up to now, I’ve only watched the Bathurst 12 Hour on the live stream,” said Muller.
“I think it is one of the great GT3 races. So I’m really looking forward to finally taking part.
“I will be racing with the two BMW Motorsport Juniors Ricky and Nico – those boys are super fast.
“They have done a great job every time we have raced together in the past.
“I have never been to Australia before, so I’ll be going there a few days earlier to take a look at Sydney.”
The event will be a particular eye opener for Collard with the race marking his debut at the circuit and behind the wheel of the M6 GT3.
“It is a dream to be able to compete in the BMW M6 GT3 in Bathurst,” said Collard.
“The location of this circuit is just fantastic.
“I have not yet raced in the BMW M6 GT3. Nonetheless, I hope that I can help the team with my speed.”
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Menzel heads to Bathurst having familiarised himself with the M6 GT3 in Germany’s VLN series.
“I gained some experience at the wheel of the BMW M6 GT3 during the last VLN season – the Nordschleife is the best, and the toughest, way to get to know a car,” said Menzel.
“Now the long winter break is over and I have just finished my high school exams, so I am really looking forward to an Australian adventure.
“Racing in Bathurst is a real highlight at this stage in my career.”
