Greg Murphy has had his first drive in a Paul Morris Motorsport race car – the Supercheap Auto Racing Sprintcar!
PMM treated its incoming and outgoing drivers with a steer of the SCAR Sprintcar at Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane.
The night was a private test, giving new team signing Murphy, current driver Russell Ingall and outgoing PMM driver Tim Slade a skid in the SCAR Eagle Sprintcar.
Murphy was announced last week as the driver of the #51 Castrol Racing Commodore VE – prepared by PMM – competing in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Team owner Paul ‘The Dude’ Morris set the benchmark time with a 12.6s lap on the night, bettering his 12.8s time he set in last Saturday night’s Archerfield race meeting (where he finished seventh in the A-Main).
Slade was first in the car, stopping the clocks at 13.4s. Ingall was next and set a lackluster 14.6s (he has always admitted that qualifying is his weak point!), and new-boy Murphy did a 13.1s – the best of the non-regular Sprintcar drivers.
While Slade, Ingall and Murphy aren’t regulars, they all have driven Sprintcars before. Slade had his first run a couple years ago at the Motorplex in Perth, while Ingall and Murphy had their first taste at Parramatta City Raceway 10 years ago. Murphy had another stint at Bacchus Marsh about seven years ago.
Next year, Slade moves to Stone Brothers Racing, Ingall stays in Supercheap Auto hues and Murphy in Castrol colours. All three will get their next drive of a V8 Supercar at the category’s official test day at Queensland Raceway on February 10.
