Podium for Metcalfe at Washougal
Brett Metcalfe

South Australia’s Brett Metcalfe has claimed third place at the latest round of the Lucas Oil Pro AMA Motocross Championship at Washougal in Washington State.

Metcalfe’s gain was Chad Reed’s pain as he finished fourth and lost the lead in the championship chase to race winner Ryan Villopoto.

Still feeling the effects of last week’s big crash at Spring Creek (Minnesota), Reed finished seventh in the opening race before battling Metcalfe in the second moto for the final place on the podium.

Michael Byrne made it a solid day for the Australians with a 10th place finish.

Acknowledging he had nothing left in the tank today Reed said he was looking forward to recuperating during the three week break in the season.

“It was a really tough day today,” said Reed.

“It’s a minor setback but as we have seen this year anything can happen and there are still four rounds and 200 points up for grabs.”

After leading the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship for seven consecutive rounds Reed has relinquished his lead and now sits third, nine points behind points leader Ryan Villopoto.

Reed will use the three-week break to fully recuperate and test ahead of the Unadilla National (New York) on Saturday August 13.
