The Bathurst Regional Council will state its case for a second circuit in Canberra this week.
Bathurst mayor Gary Rush will push his case with cabinet secretary Senator Arthur Sinodinos to secure funding for the $50 million project.
Cr Rush told Speedcafe.com that the pitch will focus on a motoring research, technology and business park and developing an international standard second circuit.
The BRC has recently completed its acquisition of land on the eastern side of the Mount Panorama track in preparation for the expansion.
Cr Rush will also lead a delegation to the opening round of the World Superbikes Championship at Phillip Island later this month to continue their relationship with DORNA.
“We have clearly indicated to DORNA that it is our intention to build a world class facility here that has the capability to host major motorcycling events,” Cr Rush said.
“And we will continue to correspond with them and certainly once we get to the design stage we will be taking up their offer of help when it takes to the safety aspects and the design of what it takes to build a modern day circuit.”
The second circuit will essentially be the centrepiece of what the council is pushing as a motor/motorsport business park.
“The opportunity around economic development and job growth and encouraging those businesses that participate in the motor industry to consider relocating sections of their business if we had such an infrastructure here,” Cr Rush said.
“The message we are trying to give off to is that the Bathurst Regional Council is very proactive and very determined to ensure this region has the opportunity around that prosperity that comes with economic development.”
