Romain Dumas has pipped Mark Webber as Porsche went 1-2 in first practice for Round 5 of the World Endurance Championship at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

Dumas blistered around the 5.5km track in 1:47.23s, the fastest lap recorded by an LMP1 machine at the Austin venue.

The time of the #18 919 Hybrid exceeded the best lap by the #17 Porsche driven by Webber by almost .3s.

The Nurburgring 6 Hour race winning #17 had been the benchmark for much of the 90-minute session until Dumas twice exceeded Webber’s best lap.

The previous quickest lap recorded by a WEC outright runner was Benoit Treluyer’s Audi lap of 1:47.37s set in 2013.

Audi’s #8 R18 e-tron quattro driven by Oliver Jarvis was third fastest in 1:49.02s.

Drive all day with open pit lane access at Queensland Raceway: July 1st and 7th. Custom race cars only, low numbers, medical support, garages, and complete on-site facilities.

The #7 Audi, currently leading the driver’s standings, was sixth best after completing just four laps after undergoing an alternator change.

Toyota’s #1 TS040 Hybrid at the hands of Kazuki Nakajima was fourth fastest with a best tour of 1:51.27s.

LMP2 honours in the opening run saw the KCMG ORECA Nissan driven by Nicolas Lapierre clock 1:57.76s to lead the Extreme Speed Motorsport Liger of Johannes van Overbeek by .6s.

James Calado (#71 AF Corse Ferrari) was fastest in GTE Pro in 2:06.75s while Patrick Long (Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche) head the GTE Am runners in 2:07.48s.
