Porsche names unchanged 2015 prototype attack

Porsche name unchanged driver line-up for its #20 and #14 919 Hybrids for next season

Porsche name unchanged driver line-up for its #20 and #14 919 Hybrids for next season

Porsche has retained the same six drivers for next season who guided the marque back to LMP1 competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley (#20 919 Hybrid) and Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb (#14) will continue Porsche’s program for a second season.

Porsche returned to the top echelon of sports car racing for the first time since the LMP1-98 with the 2litre turbo-charged V4 cylinder 919s.

While a redesigned 919 will undergo testing following the WEC season at the end of this year, a decision on whether Porsche fields a third LMP1 in 2015 is yet to be confirmed.

Porsche’s LMP1 vice president Fritz Enzinger said: “Our first season has hardly given us a breather.

“First we focussed on Le Mans and now the races with their individual challenges come in quick succession.”

The penultimate round of the WEC at Bahrain this weekend will see Porsche again fighting for a podium spot.

The 919 has been competitive through the season compiling a pole position and three podiums.

“In Bahrain we will now have another new experience, because it is the first time we will actually have any of our own data available,” Enzinger said.

“Our target is to be strong enough for another podium finish.”

The nine-times F1 grand prix winner Webber believes the Sakhir circuit will suit the 919s after testing there earlier this year.

“Technically the circuit should be good for us and for our car,” Webber said.

“It will be interesting to see how our performance develops, especially as we have been testing in Bahrain early this year.”

Bahrain precedes the final round of the championship at Sao Paulo’s Interlagos circuit from November 28-30.
