French driver Alex Premat has gone to great lengths to immerse himself in Bathurst tradition with a helmet commemorating the winners of The Great Race.

The helmet painted in the red, white and blue colours includes the names of all the winning drivers and co-drivers since the running of the first Bathurst endurance race in 1963, the Armstrong 500.

Premat helped map out the special commemorative helmet with designer Eric Amato.

Recalled to the GRM team to co-drive for young star Scott McLaughlin in the highly competitive Volvo S60, Premat has delivered a surprising assessment of how he rates Australia’s classic mountain race.

“I have more than 20 helmets at home and this one is amazing and will stay the best of my collection and it’s an honour to drive at Bathurst with all the history of the event… from 1963 to this year,” Premat said.

“Bathurst is a very special and a unique event, I have raced Le Mans as a Audi factory driver but I feel that Bathurst is more unique, to drive around the mountain is amazing with all the fans around the track.”

Premat retains the Australian flag and kangaroo on his helmet which he used when he raced in the previous two seasons with GRM.
