Race fans and industry members gathered in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton to watch a special pre-screening of the movie SENNA in support of Jason Richards.
Speedcafe.com’s special preview screening of SENNA raised $3200 for for V8 Supercars driver, who is currently fighting a rare form of cancer.
Speedcafe.com’s pre-screening comes ahead of SENNA opens in cinemas Australia-wide on Thursday.
The event attracted not only drivers, but also those within motor sport, automotive and fans in general.
Those who attended included Fujitsu V8 Supercar racer and Toll Holden Racing Team endurance driver Nick Percat, Formula Ford and Shannons Supercar Showdown competitor Nick Foster, plus Australia’s karting elite including multiple Australian champion and fellow Shannons Supercar Showdown entrant Dave Sera.
Also at the premier was Dunlop Motorsport’s Kevin Fitzsimons and former Ford Racing Australia boss Ray Price, who is now part of Service Engineering Operations for Ford Asia Pacific and Africa.
Local fan Ben Murphy summed up the feelings of many about Ayrton Senna and the movie bearing his name.
“It was really good, I really enjoyed it,” said Murphy.
“I’ve been waiting a long time to see it, and to be able to support Jason at the same time is fantastic.
“I was pretty young when Ayrton was killed – I was still in High School racing go-karts then.
“He’s always been a hero of mine, not just for his driving but his approach to life. I really enjoyed watching him and the passion has never faded.”
Speedcafe.com was pleased with the evening.

“The good news is that in the next few weeks we will be announcing events over the second half of the year that will add even more excitement around the races”.
