NASCAR star Tony Stewart has loaned his private jet and pilots so the family of seriously injured IndyCar driver Justin Wilson can be by his bedside.
While not wanting to make a fanfare about his act of kindness, news of Stewart’s offer surfaced in Twitter exchanges from IndyCar drivers.
In the late stages of the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono, Wilson was struck in the head by a piece of debris that was believed to be the nosecone which was ripped from Sage Karam’s machine after his huge single car accident.
Wilson remains in a coma and in a critical condition in hospital with IndyCar not expected to issue any further updates through the night local time.
Wilson’s brother Stefan and the 37-year-old’s wife Julia and their two young daughters had been trying to arrange transport to Pocono from Indianapolis without success until they received Stewart’s offer.
Praying for my bro right now. Trying to get myself and Julia, JWs wife to Pocono. Thank you for prayers and thoughts at this very hard time.
