David Reynolds spoiled a near perfect day for Erebus Motorsport as he edged the Mercedes trio for the fastest time in Practice 2 at Queensland Raceway.

The second of two 75 minute sessions held during the afternoon ended with a flurry of fast times that saw long-time pace-setter Tim Slade bumped from first to third.

Reynolds’ best of 1:09.59s came with little over three minutes remaining.

Lee Holdsworth fired even later final shots, falling just 0.06s short of The Bottle-O Ford, which had also set the Friday pace last time out in Townsville.

Maro Engel ensured all three Mercedes entries lapped within 0.2s of each other in fourth ahead of Brad Jones Racing team-mates Fabian Coulthard and David Wall.

Will Davison, Jason Bright, Alex Davison and Chaz Mostert completed the top 10.

Several late laps were hampered by yellow flags flying at Turn 3 for the Shane van Gisbergen Holden, which was stranded at Turn 3 after a spin.

Red Bull Racing Australia had a typically quiet Friday, with its drivers Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes 13th and 20th respectively after electing against running new tyres.

Whincup clocked a mammoth 40 laps during the 75 minutes; seven more than any other driver. His efforts included an longest unbroken spell of nine laps.

With co-drivers optional for the remainder of the day following the opening 30 minutes of Practice 1, just 10 part-timers were seen in the second hit-out.

Ford Performance Racing, the Holden Racing Team and Fujitsu GRM cycled drivers through their cars, while Karl Reindler also made a brief appearance aboard the #15 Nissan of Rick Kelly.
