David Reynolds has voiced his frustration over the effects of the late start to this year’s Top 10 Shootout at Bathurst.
The session was run in a later 1700 timeslot this year in order to lead into the Seven Network’s evening television news bulletins.
The track proved to cool off quickly as the session progressed, helping eight of the 10 drivers eclipse the previous best time.
Reynolds was the third man out and eventually wound up ninth, some 1.4s off pole-sitter Jamie Whincup’s ultimate pace.
“I reckon the whole Top 10 Shootout is rigged,” Reynolds told SEN radio’s Tony Schibeci.
“The session goes for an hour and the track is going to be slower at the start than it is at the end.
“I had to go out third, so if you look at the time sheet it shows me being over a second slower than the person who was on pole. I’m not a second off the pace.
“Our practice was on at about 10 o’clock and then we wank around all day doing appearances and putting up with people; I’ve had a guts full.”
Whincup had himself made no secret of the track evolution advantage after scoring pole.
“The track was definitely getting better,” he said.
“It was quite greasy to start with and I was in the best position to go fast right at the end there.”
