Australian grand prix star Daniel Ricciardo has helped lift the covers off an F1-inspired Aston Martin hypercar for the road.
Codenamed AM-RB 001, the car is the product of a collaboration between Aston Martin and the Red Bull squad.
Celebrated Red Bull chief technical officer and F1 design guru Adrian Newey and Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman worked closely on the project.
“I’ve long harboured the desire to design a road car,” Newey said.
“The formation of Red Bull Advanced Technologies brought me a step closer to realising that ambition, but I believed we should work with an automotive manufacturer.”
Only limited technical details of the car have been disclosed with production set at a maximum 150 units for the naturally aspirated V12 engined machine that is said to tip the scales at 1000kg and has a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
Aston Martin chief executive, Dr Andy Palmer, said the project realised an extraordinary collaboration between partners.
“To have Aston Martin working alongside Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing and the invaluable assistance of project partner AF Racing AG is an extraordinary creative collaboration,” Palmer said.
“As the project gathers pace, its clear the end result will be a truly history-making hypercar that sets incredible new benchmarks for packaging, efficiency and performance and an achievement that elevates Aston Martin to the very highest level.”
The transmission is a clean-sheet design conceived by Newey and developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies.
The total production volume will include 25 track-only examples which is already in development and benchmarked against contemporary LMP1 World Endurance Championship racers.
It is anticipated build will begin in 2018 with the cars likely to carry a $3 million pounds ($5.2 million AUD) price tag.
