Steven Richards has copped a 10 point penalty in the wake of a clash with Jason Richards at last weekend’s Sucrogen Townsville 400.
Richards, driver of the #6 Dunlop Super Dealers Ford Falcon FG, drove into the back of his Team BOC namesake on Sunday. Steve went on to finish a season-best fifth, while Jason raced back through the field to take eighth place.
It was the second incident between the Richards pair this season after an altercation at the Clipsal 500.
Jason Richards was unimpressed with the clash.
“I don’t know what Richo was doing – he just nailed me and ruined my race,” he said.
“I was at the apex and he hit me from behind. It was clearly some form of mistake, which with that guy is constant. Unfortunately I often seem to be on the receiving end of it. I DNF’d when he made contact with me at the Clipsal 500 earlier this year, my only none-finish so far, and I thought today was going to be an action replay because I spun at the front of the field with 20 cars behind me.
“The worst scenario was when I was pushing on after the pit stop. The track was breaking up and I ran a bit wide onto the gravel and into the fence. That was the only blot on my copy book. I lost a few spots and thought that might be the end of my come-back but eighth is a great result considering.”
Jason Richards sits 12th in the V8 Supercars standings, while Steve Richards in 20th place. The 10 point penalty did not affect Steve’s championship position.
In other penalties handed out in the wake of Sunday’s race at Townsville, Michael Caruso was docked 10 points for contact with Todd Kelly, Alex Davison copped 10 points for a clash with Lee Holdsworth, while Motorsport Holdings Pty Ltd (Jack Daniel’s Racing) was deducted five team points when Rick Kelly traveled more than two pit bays before entering the fast lane from a pit stop.
