Rick Kelly has taken Kelly Racing’s first-ever pole position for Race 12 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway today.
In only the team’s second year, the Jack Daniel’s Racing star rocketed to a pole time of 1:21.84, edging out TeamVodafone’s championship leader Jamie Whincup.
Paul Dumbrell (The Bottle-O Racing) set a great time late in the session to leap up to third place – his best starting place for the season, ahead of Whincup’s team-mate and yesterday’s podium man Craig Lowndes.
It was a solid session for Ford Performance Racing with all three of its cars inside the top 10. Not only did the Dumbrell Falcon take third, but Orrcon Steel FPR’s Mark Winterbottom and Dunlop Super Dealers cars will start fifth and 10th respectively.
Championship challenger James Courtney will start sixth, from Toll HRT’s Garth Tander and the Fujitsu Racing pair of Michael Caruso and Lee Holdsworth.
After struggling in qualifying yesterday, Supercheap Auto Racing’s Russell Ingall improved significantly and will start 13th.
Race 12 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series will kick off at 1.05pm.
