Garry Rogers has confirmed that Michael Caruso will leave his V8 Supercars team at the end of this season.
The long-time V8 team owner told Triple M’s Stick Shift radio program that Caruso would leave the team at the end of 2012, having driven with the Holden team since 2008.
Caruso has been linked to a switch Nissan next year, driving the team’s fourth car alongside team owner/drivers Todd and Rick Kelly, plus current Dick Johnson Racing driver James Moffat.
Rogers confirmed today Caruso will leave and that a replacement will be sort in the near future.
“At this stage I haven’t made any decisions and we’re looking at all our options for the team next year,” Rogers told the Stick Shift.
“It’s common knowledge that Robbo (Caruso) will not be driving for us, I don’t think there’s any secret about that but where we go from there I haven’t made any firm decisions on anything else yet.”
While Rogers would not be drawn on who Caruso’s replacement will be, a variety of drivers have been linked to the seat, including long-time endurance co-driver Greg Ritter, as well as stand-out Dunlop Series driver Scott McLaughlin.
McLaughlin has enjoyed the support of Fujitsu General for the past few seasons in the Development Series and tested a GRM Commodore last year.
Caruso has made all but three of his 146 V8 championship starts with GRM. He made his debut in tragic circumstances, replacing the late Mark Porter during the 2006 Bathurst 1000. He also drove in the 2007 endurance races with WPS Racing, alongside Grant Denyer.
