Dane is a noted motorcycle enthusiast and had traded emails with Wootton as late as last Friday as the former Auto Action editor-in-chief told stories of his latest adventure through Europe.
“It is a very sad day indeed,” Dane told Speedcafe.com.
“There are only two motorsport magazines in the world that I buy because I want to and not because I have to… Motor Sport in the UK and Australian Motorcycle News.
“No other English language motorcycling magazine gets close and that is due to all the work he did over 18 odd years.
“He was only telling me of his ride through Poland on a K100GT Beemer and how he averaged 160kph to the Polish border.
“He talked about how he loved Eastern Bloc countries because of the top food, cheap prices and friendly people – oh, I think there was also something about how every second bird was a budding supermodel!
“He will be missed tremendously by the motorsport and, in particular, the motorcycling communities in Australia and abroad.”
