Scene set for Bathurst 1000 after clean warm-up

Pitstop practice was the order of the morning at Bathurst

Pitstop practice was the order of the morning at Bathurst

Teams and drivers have completed their final preparations for today’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in a morning warm-up session free of drama.

Cool but dry conditions greeted the field this morning following overnight rain, with a beaming sun and rising temperatures ensuring track conditions would improve greatly throughout the 20 minutes.

Craig Lowndes turned the fastest time of the session as the chequered flag fell, recording a 2:08.68s lap to eclipse the time of team-mate Jamie Whincup by 0.15s.

James Courtney and James Moffat also recorded late fliers to be third and fourth respectively, with the latter’s car now resplendent in its ‘retro’ Tru-Blu livery after an overnight make-over.

As is tradition, teams spent the warm-up session completing final pitstop practice, undertaking radio checks, running in new braking components and making final assessments on fuel range.

The pole-sitting Will Davison/John McIntyre Falcon was one of several cars not to set a representative time, ending the session 27th in the order.

Jesse Dixon enjoyed his final pre-race laps in the Shannons Supercar Showdown Holden, running up the escape road at Hell Corner before handing the car over to primary driver Cameron Waters.

The 2012 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is scheduled to kick-off at 1030 local time.
