Daniel Gaunt has continued his dominance of Carrera Cup’s Townsville round after winning Race 2.
The Money Choice driver battled with Craig Baird at the start but eventually cleared away from the field in the 14-lap race to take victory.
Baird was left to battle with Jonny Reid, Michael Patrizi and Ben Barker for second position.
Barker fell from the duelling pack after locking a wheel mid-race into turn two, while Reid cleared from the battle in second to chase the race leader Gaunt.
Reid caught Gaunt in the closing laps but was unable to pass his fellow New Zealander, leaving Gaunt with his second win in as many days.
Steven Richards’ race hampered by a spin at turn two of the opening lap, where he was contacted from behind.
Baird finished third ahead of Patrizi and Barker.
Damien Flack finished in sixth and was the first of the Elite Class drivers, ahead of Race 1 Elite Class winner Max Twigg.
The third and final Carrera Cup race of the weekend will take place at 12:20 this afternoon.
