Shannons Nationals announce 2013 round breakdowns

Shannons Nationals night racing will be held at Queensland Raceway and Mallala this year

Shannons Nationals night racing will be held at Queensland Raceway and Mallala this year

The Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals has released the breakdown of each of its nine rounds scheduled for the 2013 season.

The series will visit four states at seven circuits throughout the year.

The Shannons Nationals also confirmed that three of the seven Australian Suzuki Swift Racing Series rounds would operate in conjunction with endurance events staged by the Australian Manufacturers Championship (Amchamp) throughout the season.

‘Endurance’ Suzuki Swift series rounds will be held at Phillip Island, Sydney Motorsport Park’s Australian Six-Hour and November’s season finale at Sandown Raceway.

In a track-sharing agreement, the Swift Series will stage one-hour races within the first hour of the Amchamp races – operating as their own category and not as an AMC class.

Suzuki Swift competitors will then have the option to continue onwards within the Amchamp races to battle for their own class glory, with multiple drivers, should they desire.

This move towards more racing and track time for the growing one-make category comes after the Shannons Nationals announced a $50,000 competition for one driver to win a fully-funded drive in the series throughout 2013. CLICK HERE for Speedcafe.com’s previous story.

Promotors of the prize have said that up to 10 drivers are expected to be compete for the prize.

New faces will also appear this season, the NSW-based PRB Motorsport series to tackle two rounds – at Sydney Motorsport Park and Phillip Island, respectively.

Two New South Wales categories will also race at the series’ October round at Wakefield Park Raceway near Goulburn, with final confirmation of exact details expected soon.

The Wakefield event includes the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Heritage round, plus the addition of two 200km Amchamp races.

Night racing will return at Queensland Raceway and Mallala. The South Australian circuit will host a feature Kumho V8 Touring Car Series race under lights on Saturday night.

A Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli race running into the twilight plus night-time Suzuki Swift Series and Australian Saloon Car action will also be part of a bumper program for the series annual Adelaide visit.

‘Marquee’ events are scattered throughout the 2013 Shannons Nationals calendar, with Mallala (Clem Smith Cup for Sports Sedans), Winton (Dial Before You Dig Trophy – for Saloon Cars) and Wakefield Park (V8 Touring Car heritage round) amongst other big events scheduled.

More news regarding the race formats for the Australian Six-Hour and the Australian Manufacturers Championship will be revealed in due course.
