Long-time Australian Speedway team manager and grandfather of Jason Crump, Neil Street, has passed away at the age of 80.
Street has been the guiding light for young Australians heading across to England for many a year.
He was instrumental in his role as the Australian team manager for Test Matches and in the early days of the modern day Speedway World Cup.
Heading to England in 1952, Street became synonymous with the sport both in England and here in Australia. His own riding career stretched well into his 40s.
One of the young riders he guided was Phil Crump – who eventually married Street's daughter. Some might say Jason Crump had little choice but to follow in the family's footsteps.
The loss of Street will leave a big gap in the Australian Speedway community.
