Steven Lines is the new ENZED World Series Sprintcars Speedweek champion as a result of the final round being rained out at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
Queensland’s Robbie Farr had led the overall series points prior to the fifth and final round of the mini Speedweek Series, but rules stipulate he was not eligible to be crowned champion.
Farr used his ‘joker card’ for the Avalon round on Monday and as such, the joker cards do not have an effect on Speedweek standings which has handed Mt Gambier’s Lines the title.
“You can use the Joker for your series points,” explains WSS Competition Director Paul Trengove.
“But they don’t have an effect on Speedweek standings.”
Lines produced a consistent Speedweek which included two wins (Speedway City and Avalon) a second place at Murray Bridge and a DNF at Mt. Gambier.
Brooke Tatnell claimed second in the championship with James McFadden third, Brad Keller fourth and Farr rounding out the top five.
“Obviously it’s a disappointing way to win, but let’s face it; we’re going to take the win.
“Now we’ll focus on heading to Brisbane and the next two weekends there.”
The World Series Sprintcars Championship continues at Archerfield Speedway, Brisbane on January 4.
