The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series – The Island 300 – will be a Sunday-only television broadcast.
The Phillip Island 300 will be broadcast on Channel Seven from midday to 5pm (AEDT)
It will be the second time the V8 Supercar circus has taken to the Phillip Island track this year, with next month’s round replacing the scheduled event in Bahrain.
The Island race will only be a two-day meeting, with practice, qualifying, top 10 shoot out and Race 21 (22 laps) on Saturday. Sunday will feature qualifying and the 44 lap Race 22.
Channel Seven pit lane caller Mark Larkham told speedcafe.com.au that he backs the idea of two-day meetings.
“As far as I’m concerned, the shorter the race meetings, the better,” he said.
“Formula 3 in the UK set the standard many, many years ago where they qualified on Sunday morning and raced during that same day. Maybe, there’s something that we can learn from that as well, provided it doesn’t have a material consequence on the punters or promoters.”
The Island 300 will be run on November 7-8.
