The newly constructed Super5000 car is expected to complete its first public demonstration laps at this weekend’s Wilson Security Sandown 500.
Supercars revealed the Super5000 car, which features a carbon fibre monocoque chassis fitted to a Supercars V8 engine and Albins transaxle gearbox, in June.
The original project was funded by property developer Brian Boyd from PAYCE Consolidated and long-time motorsport sponsorship partner Wilson Security.
This weekend will be its first public appearance having only conducted private tests with Garth Tander, Lee Holdsworth and Alex Davison.
Speedcafe.com understands Tander is likely to jump behind the wheel for the demonstrations over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Formula Thunder 5000 car, conceived by former racer and publisher Chris Lambden, will also be on display at the event.
The confirmation of the merger between Super5000 and Formula Thunder 5000 in July revealed that a new improved Formula 5000 car would be created using the best components from the Super5000 and Formula Thunder 5000 cars.
Supercars CEO James Warburton expects the demonstration will provide valuable feedback from spectators.
“There will be a demo of the Super5000 car,” Warburton told Speedcafe.com.
“Wilson Security and PAYCE have been behind the prototype and given that it is a Wilson Security sponsored event, there will be a demo.
“Obviously Chris Lambden (Formula Thunder 5000) has come together with John McMellan (Wilson Security) and Brian Boyd (PAYCE) to form the merged Super5000 category.
“For them it is all about getting some feedback from punters as nobody has really seen it yet.
“As I have always said with this project the public will decide (if there is a market for it).”
Warburton has also hinted that demonstration laps are planned for the car at the Vodafone Gold Coast 600 from October 20-22.
