TA2 Muscle Cars complete Adelaide 500 bill

TA2 Muscle Cars will join a packed Adelaide 500 support bill

The TA2 Muscle Car Series will feature on the support bill at next year’s Superloop Adelaide 500.

Organisers have confirmed a deal has been struck between TA2, its promoters, the Australian Racing Group (ARG) and Events South Australia that will see 24 TA2 muscle cars compete in Adelaide in what will be the category’s first street race.

The low cost touring car series features V8 powered Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenge bodied muscle cars driven by a range of young guns and experienced racers.

Last weekend saw the series crown Aaron Seton as its 2019 winner at Queensland Raceway.

Confirmation of the deal sees TA2 join the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Dunlop Super2 Series, Porsche Payce Carrera Cup Australia, Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters, and the return of the Stadium Super Trucks.

ARG was confident the deal would be completed amid concerns the category’s appearance may have been blocked by Supercars after its attempts to bring TCR Australia faced a stumbling block.

While the event is organised and promoted by the South Australian Tourism Commission, Supercars has a say in vetoing support categories for the race meeting.

“This will be TA2’s biggest event that they have competed at, and the real winners are going to be the fans. They are modern, popular muscle cars that make all of the right sounds,” said ARG director Matt Braid.

“The racing will be close too. There are a number of really great drivers who will line-up on the TA2 grid next year, and we know they are going to put on a great spectacle for the Adelaide race-goers.”

TA2 category manager Craig Denyer has hailed the deal as a key milestone for the series.

“This event is a major turning point for TA2 which has grown incredibly quickly in just two seasons as a national series,” said Denyer.

“The Superloop Adelaide 500 is the benchmark when it comes to fan engagement and our teams and drivers can’t wait to perform on the national stage and show everyone just how great the TA2 Muscle Car Series really is.”

Adelaide 500 General Manager Alistair MacDonald believes the latest addition to the on track line-up further cements the event as Australia’s premier domestic motorsport event.

“We are delighted to host the TA2 Muscle Car Series at our event in 2020, more importantly as their first ever street circuit outing in Australia,” said MacDonald.

“The on track racing line-up is stronger than ever with a quality range of support categories, appealing to all motorsport enthusiasts and event goers.”

The 2020 Adelaide 500 will take place from February 20-23.
