A fresh direction from a possible change of ownership would be a positive move for Supercars, according to Garry Rogers Motorsport team director Barry Rogers.
It has been reported five corporations including News Corp Australia, Supercars’ former owners Sports Entertainment Limited and TEG, owners of Ticketek, have registered an interest in purchasing the sport.
A deadline to table a non-binding indicative bid passed two weeks ago with Archer Capital and Supercars now assessing the respective offers.
A potential sale would effectively require the support of Supercars REC holders who own a minority 35 percent stake.
Supercars boss James Warburton has stressed the procedure will be a lengthy process with no guarantees a change of ownership will be completed.
However, Rogers hopes prospective new owners will offer the category a fresh direction much like Liberty Media since their takeover of Formula 1.
“From a team perspective we have probably seen Archer Capital be a bit of a silent partner,” Rogers told Speedcafe.com.
“I think a new owner with fresh ideas and approach to the whole lot could be a very big positive for the whole thing.
“If you look at Formula 1, I wouldn’t say the racing is any better this year but you can certainly see the fresh approach by the new owners in the ways they broadcast it and what goes on.
“I think if we can get someone that can buy into it and look at it from a different angle, I certainly don’t see that as a negative.”
Brad Jones Racing team owner Brad Jones has echoed Rogers’ thoughts although the Supercars Commission member admits there is long path ahead before teams will know the identities of the prospective buyers.
“I think we’re looking for a partner that contributes to the sport, that’s what we’ve always wanted; someone that’s going to help us build the sport better than it currently is,” Jones told Speedcafe.com.
“Ideally we’ll end up with that sort of partner.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t say I’ve been very bogged down with the whole process because I think that there’s no point putting too much into it until we found out who’s interested in it.
“Then there’ll be some discussions at that level. It depends who the partner is.”
