Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport driver Alex Rullo has been handed a full CAMS Superlicence ahead of this weekend’s CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown.

The youngest driver in Supercars history is now eligible to qualify for a superlicence after the teenager turned 17 today.

Rullo was controversially awarded a special dispensation from the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) to compete in Supercars despite failing to meet the required minimum age and experience to be granted a licence.

The superlicence was introduced this season to ensure a certain level of driver ability is met across the Supercars field.

The Perth native has been monitored by CAMS on a round-by-round basis this season.

However, that process will come to end with Rullo now armed with a full superlicence.

“It is good to have the full licence, but for me it didn’t really affect me too much,” Rullo told Speedcafe.com

“I wasn’t driving more cautiously or anything like that I just drove how I normally do.”

Rullo has been busy in the break since the last round at Winton, spending the last two weeks of school holidays working with the LDM team in Melbourne.

The rookie has been studying data and onboard videos ahead of his first drive at the Hidden Valley circuit, and has visited a sports psychologist to enhance his race preparation.

He will also benefit from new team-mate Cameron McConville who will bring a wealth of experience to the team and act as a driver mentor.

“I’m feeling pretty good and I think I’m probably the best prepared I’ve been for a round,” he added.

“I have been in Melbourne for the last two weeks just helping out at the workshop where I can.

“I’ve been doing a lot of research into how the cars went here last year and studying the onboard massively.

“I’m feeling well prepared even though it is my first time here this year.

“Hopefully we go well and it will be good to have Cam with us.

“Experience is the one thing I am lacking and he has got lot of it so I expect him to be pretty fast once he gets up to speed. I will just follow him around and see how I go.

“I have been to see a sports psychologist just to refresh myself and try a few new things.

“We have just been talking about how the race weekend plays out and preparation and being a bit more relaxed when I’m driving.”
