Tekno Autosports has confirmed plans to upgrade to the new ZB Commodore package for next season amid a staff reshuffle ahead of this weekend’s ITM Auckland Super Sprint.
The Gold-Coast squad is continuing to work on its plans for next season with both title sponsorship and its driver for its one-car team yet be secured.
Sponsors Woodstock Bourbon and current driver Will Davison are out of contract at the end of the season.
While there is still plenty to play out in the silly season, the squad has shown its commitment to the category by placing an order for the Triple Eight developed ZB Commodore bodykit.
The car, which is due to undergo homologation in December, will make its competitive debut next year.
Tekno is currently assessing its driver options for 2018 with several candidates in the mix, according to team manager Steve Greer.
Davison hasn’t ruled out staying at the 2016 Bathurst 1000 winning team for a third year, while the seat has also attracted attention from Dunlop Super2 Series drivers.
“We have placed an order with Triple Eight and paid a deposit along with spare parts, so it is full steam ahead,” Greer told Speedcafe.com.
“It is always good to have a refresh with brand new kit.
“We have had a very good track record with this car (VF Commodore) but it is always good to have something new and shiny in the workshop.
“There are lots of candidates on the card (for the drive) and they are all good, so something will come out over the coming months but it is all pretty positive.”
Confirmation the squad intends to upgrade arrives following a re-organisation of its staff prior to the penultimate round at Pukekohe.
Mechanic Janelle Navarro has stepped up into a leadership role while Greer is leading the team in the absence of team owner Jonathon Webb.
The squad has also drafted in personnel from its Tekno Performance arm to join the crew in New Zealand.
“We have shuffled one of our mechanics Janelle Navarro into a leadership role and she is going really well, and we have brought along one of your staff members from our Tekno Performance division and he is fitting in very well,” added Greer.
“He has picked up the things we do with the race car side of the business very well.
“Jonathon (Webb) is looking after all the commercial side of things with sponsors and all the bits and pieces that need to be taken care of back at the workshop.”
The squad will kick-of its ITM Auckland Super Sprint program today when opening practice begins at 1115 local time.
