Robert Keith has shot to the top of the leader board of the Supercheap Auto Shopping $1,000 with his win at the Townsville round, held at Supercheap Auto, Garbutt, last night.
The Supercheap Auto Shopping $1,000 is a competition which sees contestants given a list of 10 brand names, with the target of collecting no more than 15 items and coming as close to $1000 as possible – all in the fastest possible time.
Not only did Keith collect the minimum 15 items required and at least one product from 10 Supercheap Auto Racing partners, but his trolley total also came in spot on at $1,000!
There have been five rounds held so far, with one more to come during the Queensland Raceway V8 weekend. The overall winner wins an all-expenses paid trip for two to Bathurst for Australia’s Great Race, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in October.
Keith’s haul surpassed previous competition leader, water policeman Neil Dawon’s total of $997 set in Perth in May.
Keith set a time of 1 minute 42 seconds, which will be the mark to beat if someone can equal his dollar value at the last round of the promotion in Ipswich next month.
“We’re all still a little stunned, I didn’t think anyone would top our Perth winner Neil Dawson’s run, but Robert was right on the money with exactly $1000 – it was incredible!” Supercheap Auto Racing’s Russell ‘the Enforcer’ Ingall said.
“His trolley was full of all the right brands and enough products, which is the first requirement. But when the scanning was done and it came in right on the money we were all surprised.
“Robert’s now in the box seat now for the trip to Bathurst in October for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, but there’s still one more round to go so the grand prize is still up for grabs.”
