The Australian designed and built Ford Focus V8 Global Touring Car prototype has enjoyed its official launch and first test run in South Africa.
Local organisers hope to have a full series up and running in the second half of 2014, with plans for BMW 5 Series and Audi A4 bodywork already in the pipeline.
It is said that South Africa is being used as a blueprint for the regulations ahead of expansion into other countries.
Although the prototype was built in Australia, the race cars will be constructed in South Africa.
Three Focus V8s similar to the one seen here are being built by Queensland-based Pace Innovations for next year's Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, where they will be run by Ryan McLeod's Racer Industries outfit.
See below for the GTC's official video from the car's inaugural run on South African soil.
