Ash Walsh and Duvashen Padayachee are set to start Race 1 of Australian GT from pole position in part due to the latter crashing at the start of Qualifying 2 at Sandown.
In an ironic twist to the two-part qualifying process, Padayachee lost control at the kink in the back straight in the rainy conditions.
The #44 Supabarn Audi R8 hit the fence on driver’s lift before spinning.
While Padayachee got back to pit lane, the repairs to the barrier saw the session red flagged without any driver setting a lap, and it did not restart.
Walsh had set the fastest time in Qualifying 1 earlier in the day, which was also held in wet conditions, and hence held onto what had been provisional pole.
Car #44 will start alongside Geoff Emery (#74 Jamec Pem Audi R8), who is currently second in the championship.
Points leader Liam Talbot (#911 Walkinshaw Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R) qualified third-fastest.
