Pascal Wehrlein will make his competitive Formula 1 return for Sauber at this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
The German driver elected to sit out races in Australia and China due to concerns regarding his fitness after sustaining a back injury in a crash at the Race of Champions event in January.
As a result, GP2 driver Antonio Giovinazzi filled in for the Mercedes development driver, finishing 12th on debut at Albert Park, before retiring in Shanghai last Sunday.
Sauber has now since confirmed that Wehrlein will be back for this week’s visit to the Sakhir International Circuit.
“Good news: We are pleased to inform that Pascal Wehrlein will be back in the car as of the Bahrain GP,” read a post of the team’s official Twitter page.
Opening practice is scheduled to begin at 2130 AEST.
