Whincup and Skaife set Practice 4 benchmark

TeamVodafone has continued from where it left off yesterday at Phillip Island, with its two entries ending this morning’s penultimate practice session on top of the time sheets.

Jamie Whincup put in a pair of qualifying simulation runs in the final quarter of the 40 minute session – setting a best time of 1:33.01s that would not be beaten.

Mark Skaife improved on his final run in the #888 entry to cement second position, albeit some 0.59s adrift of Whincup.

Garth Tander (Toll Holden Racing Team) was third fastest, ahead of Steve Owen (VIP Petfoods Racing) and the Rick Kelly/Owen Kelly Jack Daniel’s Racing Commodore.

Skaife was one of several drivers to venture off-course during the session, with the defending race winner running down the escape road at Turn 4 during his first run.

A strong tail wind down the front straight also caused difficulties, with the #18 Jim Beam Racing and #4 Irwin Racing Falcons both emerging unscathed from separate Turn 1 offs.

The Team BOC Commodore ended the session parked on the grass at the inside of the final corner, believed to be out of fuel.
