Red Bull Racing Australia will roll out a fresh chassis for Jamie Whincup and co-driver Paul Dumbrell at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
The team has confirmed its plan ahead of a test day at Queensland Raceway on September 1, where the duo will put the car through its paces.
Whincup’s current chassis debuted at Sandown two years ago, where Whincup and Dumbrell took a dominant victory.
It has gone on to become one of the most successful chassis in V8 Supercars history, winning 20 races.
‘We’re excited to get a new chassis under Jamie,” said team manager and race engineer, Mark Dutton.
“The team has been working around the clock to get it ready for the enduros and we’re excited to see how it shakes down in the upcoming test.
“Each individual chassis – although built to spec – still has its own unique characteristics and it’s always an exciting process for both the driver and engineers to see how it plays out.”
Whincup sits sixth in the standings, 449 points behind leader Mark Winterbottom, after a difficult first half of the season.
Last weekend’s event at Sydney Motorsport Park saw the six-time champion snap a 15 race winless streak, leaving the team encouraged ahead of the Enduro Cup.
“There’s no hiding that we had an inconsistent start to the year,” said Dutton, who resumed race engineering duties on Whincup’s car last month in a bid to revitalise the team’s fortunes.
“But we’ve definitely made up some ground in the last few rounds and feel like we’re at a point where the cars are much closer to the set-up window we need to be in to be able to consistently win races again.
“Jamie proved that on the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park and hopefully with the addition of the new car, it’ll help add a little extra spark to he and Paul’s Enduro Cup defence.”
