Mark Winterbottom will join the Shell Racing Team to contest the doubles race of the Brazilian Stock Car Series at Interlagos.

The Tickford Racing Supercars star will partner Atila Abreu in the #51 Shell Racing Team Chevrolet V8 stock car at the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix venue next month.

Winterbottom has twice competed in the series with his last outing arriving in 2015 when he linked with Marcos Gomes in a Peugeot.

The pair finished second when the doubles race was held at Ayrton Senna Circuit in Goiania.

“I am excited to be joining the Shell Racing Team in the opening Stock Car Brazil Race,” said Winterbottom.

“I enjoy how competitive the Stock Car series is because it reminds me a lot of the Australian Supercar Championship I’ll compete in.

“After finishing second in my last Stock Car doubles race the aim is to climb a step driving with Atila, he is a consistent front runner and I think we have a good chance.

“Returning to the Interlagos circuit for the second time is helpful and I look forward to the extra co-driver Practice sessions. I know the car and i know the circuit, so I will feel familiar straight up.”

Winterbottom will be joined at the Shell Racing Team by factory Porsche GT3 racer Laurens Vanthoor who will co-drive with ex-Formula 1 driver Ricardo Zonta.

A host of international drivers are expected to land co-drives for Brazilian touring cars showpiece event on March 10.
